  1. Alan, I am irresistibly reminded of Prof. Harold Hill purveyor of wholesome family values in the shape of boys bands, who "sold" steam automobiles...until somebody actually invented one.

  2. You've all probably heard that Bob Simon, of 60 Minutes, was killed (the only fatality) in a car crash on his way home in Manhattan Wednesday evening. The CBS Evening News devoted a good 50% of the broadcast to Mr. Simon's life and legacy last night. I donno. Rod McKuen by Pneumonia, Bob Simon by a probably senseless car crash... Makes a person rather acutely aware of the fragility of human life.
