When do you put up a Christmas tree, if you have one?

  1. Frosted windowpanes, candles gleaming inside
    Painted candycanes on the tree

    Howard is first.

  2. I haven't put a tree up in many, many years. Since there are no small children in the house I don't see a need. And storing ornaments and/or a fake tree all year, putting it up for a few weeks display then taking it all down and storing it again. Just way too much effort for the return. I don't put lights or decorations outside either. Somehow it's always warmer when it's time to put them out, but arctic when it's time to bring them in. I usually have my family over for brunch and call it good enough.

  3. Got into LA early, actually, although that's because theybuilt an extra hour fudge factor into the travel time between Fullerton and LA. My friend wasn't expecting me that early, but picked me up a bit later. Got to the hotel, showered, napped, had lunch, and got my convention badge. Everything set.

Rain in Mew Mexico yesterday. Not in LA today, although you can see that there has been a lot recently.

Listener -- thanks for asking your friend.

In a way a share Alan's nostalgia for the departed color tests (selective dyes are still used in histology) but modern instrumental methods are so much faster and easier.

  5. I stopped putting up my tree when I became Julie Twelve Cats. Once you're out of the habit. . . .

  6. We're waiting until after our family gathering, because we don't dare leave the tree here with the kitties. Ha!

But our tradition became to put up the tree once everyone's college finals are over, and that still feels like the right time. So we put ours up mid-December and keep it up to either New Year's Day or Epiphany, depending on the situation.

  7. Waiting to hear back, Bill, but I think it will be by Monday. She is currently leading an Advent retreat.
