Good-bye, September!

  1. So this time tomorrow I will be on the train in northern Wisconsin. And Howard will still be first, as he is today.

    1. Traveling mercies, Bill!

I haven't traveled on an American train since I turned in my Amtrak employee pass. Those were *good* years!

    2. I once had a railroad employee pass. But that was *before* there was such a thing as Amtrak.

Yes, I rather liked being a railway clerk, as my father and grandfather had been before me.

  2. I seem to be getting one of those colds that starts with a sore throat then progresses to adding in sneezing. Does anyone know if cold germs have any impact on one's cholesterol or glucose levels? I have a check up with routine bloodwork on Friday.

    1. Don't see how it could affect cholesterol. If it stresses you out, the stress -- not the germs -- could increase glucose.

    2. I don't see any way a mere cold is going to do much at all. The stress required to raise glucose levels significantly--even noticeably--would be far more than a few rhinoviruses could do. Prolonged vomiting and/or diarrhea can induce hypovolemic shock, which can really raise the blood sugar level.

Now to go root for the Root Center. [Chortle--I automatically pronounced root and Root differently in my mind...]

    3. Cold medicine and diuretics can both lower blood volume enough to change fasting glucose numbers.

    4. Thanks, all! It would be hard to be an adult and get stressed over having a cold. :-) I'm taking only Children's Claritin and my normal med and vitamins. So I guess I'm fine for Friday. That helps.

Sore throat is about gone, just some congestion now. Not too bad.
