  2. Meant to say this on the last thread: I have a terrific primary care doctor. I trust her, and love her. Howsumevah, as soon as the GI thing came up, and there was a doc in place, she demurred to offer any more opinions. . . . She *did* agree about the potassium, and did write the replacement script that the pharmacist recommended. . . . .

    1. Finding doctors, especially a GP, you trust is very tricky but oh so very important. Hard to find the right fit with a dentist too. I love my dentist. She is the junior partner in the practice and though the other, male, partners are good, Dr. Hanna is just wonderful. Now if I could only find a medical practice I feel as comfortable with. Going to try Mum's new place, where she sees a nurse practitioner rather than an M.D. Sis usually goes with her, and they both assure me I'll like the nurse very much. Haven't gotten around to making an appointment... At some point, maybe, when I have nothing better to do...

  3. I did nurse practitioners for ten years before this doc. Loved all but one. Higher rate than I like doctors, lol!

  4. My doc has been on vacation for about 10 days. I need a renewal on a prescription that I'll run out of on Wednesday morning. I have waited to call the office about this, because the last time I called for this my doc was on vacation and the sub messed it up. Hoping this goes easily this time. I just want her to prescribe a year's worth all in one lump. That way, I can buy it in batches that are more economical than monthly.

    1. Note: It's not for anything that raises BP or could have an adverse effect if used for too long. It's just an anti-viral so I don't get shingles. The last time I tried to go off it, so that I could take the shingles vaccine, I got shingles three days later. This is a no-brainer. I hope they don't restrict me to only enough to get me to my October doc appt. Sheesh!

  5. I found my doctor by going to the hospital/practice's web site, where each doctor wrote something about themselves. Dr. Yen, who is also head of the hospital's internal medicine residency program, expressed his belief in evidence-based medicine. That clicked with my views of how medicine should be practiced. And it worked out great.

  6. Bill can you say a bit about what you mean by evidenced-based medicine and how it relates to the average patient?

  7. I hate doctor shopping with a purple passion. One of the great things about Kaiser is that any time you don't like the doctor you have, you can change--absolutely no problem (as long as the doctor you request can handle another patient). That beats any other HMO I have ever had.

I wrote a thank-you letter to Grado Labs about my headphones, and they suggested that perhaps the reason I could distinguish among the sounds of all their models of headphones was bone transmission. I gave that a test, but no dice. My current theory is that I am hearing undertones of the fundamentals I cannot hear. Good headphones should reproduce those better too, and I ought to be more sensitive to them than people who can hear the fundamental tones.

And now to bed, not TOO much later than I should. Taking a nap before heading home from work was a big help.

  8. We have about five doctors who practice in this county. Four are GPs and one's a pediatrician. Next closest docs are an hour and a half away, in Virginia.
