  1. Well, I seem to have managed to miss the pre-1:00am discussion. Sorry to be AWOL. I worked until just after 2:00pm and we had VT*Grand here overnight last night. It was her dance recital day and she rocked it. She did her best ever in her two routines and I honestly believe she is one of those who gets energy, strength and joy from having a full audience before her. Six years old and she perked up the whole group routine which a few well placed pizzazz moments! Ha! Her group danced to "I've Got Rhythm" and "Send in the Clowns." For the first they were gorgeously out of step and for the second they were the comic relief! LOL! She had a blast! :-D

Tomorrow we are off to visit Grandson! Yeah!! XOXOXXX

  2. Hmmm....Would I choose to go to when things were black and white? Well, they never were, really.

You have an excused absence, listener.

Getting warm around here; around a hundred degrees, give or take, through the week. We picked plums and some early peaches today, and had the dryer vent cleaned out (it's not easy). Yesterday we had the heating element in our clothes dryer replaced. We are thinking that we should look into replacing both the washer and dryer; they are thirty years young. They're Maytags--evidently among the last good ones, but they do have a finite lifetime, I expect. The repairman (a former Maytag Man) suggested Whirlpool, the less fancy the better. We can keep an eye out for sales. And now to bed.

  5. Warm green summer day here. Gonna get hot later this week, whew! For now--good.

  6. 100F is insanely hot! It was 88F today in NH, when we are lunch in the sun. Ugh!

Doing nothing slowly is an art!

Alan, you must mean your clothes dryer's exhaust vent, not lint trap, eh? Check Consumer Reports for good newer models. What size are you seeking?

    1. How hot is hot depends very much on the humidity. I can testify from personal experience that in Phoenix 95F is superbly comfortable and 105F isn't bad as long as you stay out of the direct sun.

    2. Good point about the humidity. How is it out your way, Alan? Right now our humidity is 90%. Bleah.

  7. Back from DucKon. I had a good time personally. The Traincon party (I've mentioned Traincon, haven't I) went well. Donuts and coffee cake and apple juice were generally appreciated -- another party was doing the alcohol stuff. And a couple of people asked to be added to the Traincon mailing list. But I was disappointed by the small number of people who stopped by the fan table where I was promoting next year's Worldcon. Several people I talked to said that attendance seemed to be way down, although the official story is that it was last year that attendance dropped sharply while where was a slight rebound this year.

  8. Re yesterday's thread about books: There are advantages to e-books. I bought more that 7000 titles from Fictionwise, mostly in response to large-volume discounts. I say "titles" because about half of those were short fiction rather than full-sized books. Guess how much physical space those take up?

Although when I duplicated them in my B&N library after they bought and then discontinues Fictionwise, my copy of Nook for PC crashed (everything is still available on-line). When I get time -- bot see message from a few days ago -- I need to go through and delete all that I prove I can access from the copy on my hard disk.

    1. That sounds like a lot of work, Bill. I hope you still have time to read at some point. Good luck with all your work!
