It's Town Meeting Day!

Today in my little town in Vermont, we have an number of contested local races on the ballot, including several seats on the Library Board of Trustees!  (There are at least two Republicans running ~ a first.)  There is also a right-wing Republican seeking to be elected to the Selectboard, and we need to decide whether we are going to redesign our town plan.  It matters!  I will be working at the polls and, for my first time ever, helping to count the absentee ballots. Wish us luck!

  1. Libraries are one of most valuable, and currently most threatened (at least in California) institutions. So I wish you the best of trustees! And brava for participating. I feel increasingly protective of our local library here....

    1. No worries about libraries in Oak Park, IL. We are notorious in the Chicago area for our willingness to tax ourselves for the services we want. And a good library is definitely one of those services.

    2. Thank-you, Shelley!

And, Bill, you may recall that Donna works at Library salt mine too ~ and for Chicago! :-)

    1. ♥Renee♥ Rest up. I'm quite sure God will understand if you don't feel well enough to get your ashes tomorrow.

  3. Town Meeting Day in Vermont, here in Jericho, featured a long discussion about the Fire Department, news that the footbridge by the Old Red Mill will finally be rebuilt this year, and I counted as many as three women knitting in one row. I was pleased to work at the polls again, as I have every year since Howard Dean ran for President. Now awaiting results of the town Selectboard and Library Trustee elections.

  4. Oh gosh, Renee! ♥ Do take care!! R&R is a good thing. Being present for ashes might help too (if your forehead doesn't have any open wounds).

  5. I wonder how tomorrow will go. I have a 1:00pm appointment with the retina specialist and watercolor class that runs 4-6pm. Just yesterday I learned that my appointment might take 3 hours and my eyes will be widely dilated. I wonder if I'll be able to drive to class and bear the bright room we meet in. Hmmm…

    1. This might be one instance in which skipping class is wise? Please drive carefully in any case.

    2. The doc should give you a pair of cheap dark glasses to deal with the glare. My retinal specialist does.

    3. Hi Bill. I have prescription sunglasses as well as some non-prescription "Atom Ant" style sunglasses to wear over those. So it's not so much glare I'm concerned about but blurry vision and that the appointment could go late enough to cut into my class time.

  6. Cassino Royale, hmmm. I've seen bits and pieces of that, but not all the way through. That's the one, isn't it, that features (or at least includes) Dusty Springfield singing "The Look of Love?" I just got a Dusty Springfield Greatest Hits CD, and "The Look of Love" is the first track. I actually like it by Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66. Barry has a lovely version on a recent album, "The Greatest Love Songs of All Time" maybe? Anyway...How was the movie, Alan?

    1. I didn't get around to seeing it last night or tonight, but it is next to the iMac waiting for the next time I watch a movie.
