  2. Apparently bumping the turn signal device on the way out of my car turns on its parking lights. Who knew? It's not good to leave your parking lights on for two days, especially when you have twelve places you need to go. Heh.

    1. It’s nice to have an automatic turnoff on the lights. I wonder if the manufacturer is aware of the “feature” you discovered…

    2. Oh, the manufacturer knows; I read it in the manual, which is how I figured it out. In fact, one can even choose to turn on the parking lights on one side of the car only, which apparently is helpful for brief curb parking in Britain. The rest of the lights do have automatic shut-off. So it's really ironic!

Headline on Chicago Tribune story: Thaw today, gone tomorrow.

  4. Gorgeous day going on here: 60ยบ sunny, small breeze. Beau spent the morning in the doorway (door open), just surveying. At peace. Me, too.

I think I found the Carpenters *songs* a bit on the bland side compared to, say, Seeger or Belafonte. But I'm reacting to something quite different from what you did. And I definitely preferred them to Sinatra or Crosby or the Andrews Sisters."

Bill, you made my day! Sinatra is one of those people who are perfectly fine, occasionally superb, but generally over-rated. I can't tell you how it delights me to find that you prefer Karen and Richard over him. I like Bing and the Andrews Sisters, preferably together but, given a choice, I'd rather listen to The Carpenters. Interesting juxtoposition of generations BTW, and I think Spot on. The Carpenters were to Pop music of the '70s as Frank, Bing and the Andrews Sisters were to Pop music of the '40s. Also, apparently they both liked music from the 40s, so they would appreciate the comparison.

Alan, funny you should mention the ibis, I was thinking about them on Sunday...probably not at the very moment when you spotted them, but who knows? Even NLS (the Talking Book program) has two books of that title. Sorry for not including the subtitle. As you no doubt found, the full title is The Bookman's Tale: A Novel of Obcession. A lot of crows = a murder of crows, but you were very tired. ...Wonder if there's a special collective other than flock for ibis. Must check into that.

  6. Mid 40s here today but it's not going to last. The terms wintry mix and snow were bandied about by the weatherman.
