  2. How are you all doing with snow totals? So far we have just a trace of ice with a dusting of snow on top. However, I have it on good authority (Sully) that the second half of the storm will make up for that and we'll end up with a foot or more of snow. Well see!

    1. We missed this storm. In fact, it edged above freezing today, although that won't last. Looks like about a foot and a half total on the ground. Chicago doesn't usually have snow just sit for weeks like this, although it's not unprecedented.

  3. No snow here, and no rain in the forecast. I saw what might be early peaches beginning to bloom.

President Obama, having flown past or over this area many times to attend glitzy fundraising parties in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas, is to visit Fresno Friday. But evidently he will be hiding from the public, avoiding the streets, traveling with military escorts, and attending meetings at secure undisclosed locations to which Republican officeholders are not invited. If true, it is as craven and disrespectful as it is unprecedented. Supposedly he will be here to commiserate with us about the water shortage, but what can he really do? A rain dance? Attend a group prayer for rain? Announce that the XL pipeline is going to be diverted and repurposed to carry water from the Ohio River or the Great Lakes or the Columbia to the Colorado or the Sacramento? Or maybe he will deport even more of our neighbors so there will be no one to plant, tend, or harvest the crops, and therefore no need to water them? No, evidently he is simply looking for a photo op at a farm. Well, maybe it won't really work out that way. We will see.

  4. Oh Boy! Here's the schedule for Obama's visit to "Fresno:"

President Barack Obama’s trip to the Fresno area on Friday will not be open to the public, according to the White House.

Obama will arrive in Air Force One at Fresno Yosemite International Airport at 2:30 p.m., traveling from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.

Taking Marine One, the presidential helicopter, Obama will fly to the San Luis Water Facility in Firebaugh to tour a local farm at 4:15 p.m.

At 4:30 p.m. Obama will deliver remarks at a private residence in Los Banos.

At 5:35 p.m., he will depart Fresno from Fresno Yosemite International Airport and fly to the Palm Springs area to meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan.

Neither Clinton nor either of the Bushes treated the people hereabouts with such contempt; I doubt any other visiting President has.
