Sleepy Mourning

  1. Dr. Dean is First!

So far, so good. My arm is tender where I got the flu shot, and recently I sneezed a few times and have a slightly runny nose and slightly sore throat. Hopefully that's all I'll get.

    1. That's evidence of a good immune response. When the virus particles and antibodies are about in balance, one gets the "flu-like" symptoms. When the antibodies get the upper hand, it goes away.

    2. Thanks, Alan. I'm getting there. I was careful what I ate earlier today, but feel okay now. Tired, though; but got a nap, and a good night's sleep should set things to rights.

  2. Buried at the back of the iPhone manual is the statement that you can change carriers and instructions on how to do so. But you have to be pretty determined to find it.

I was just about to start the process of switching to Credo Mobile when I came across an article claiming that AT&T is the best phone company from a union perspective. The idear struck me as dubious, but it was sufficient to let my natural inertia kick in. Switching would have been a PITA and this claim gave me a reason not to bother. I've wondered about it since but, again, inertia is a powerful thing.

I got the iPhone in the first place because the Xavior Society said it was the best smart phone for blind users, and I read an article Sis showed me in some mainstream magazine, like The New Yorker or something, by a totally blind man who was initially skeptical but who became an enthusiastic convert. Besides, iPhones must be cool - Engelbert has one. But, of course, Alan, none of these considerations weighs with you. It makes sense for you to get the phone that best best meets your needs.

    1. I don't have current information, but I know that AT&T was thoroughly unionized in the 1950s (my mother was a member of the Communications Workers of America). And it's hard to get rid of a union once you have it.

    2. I just can't justify a smarter phone than the one I have now, but that Nexus 5 sure looked nice... I don't use a lot of the features on my long-obsolete cell phone as it is, but with the near total disappearance of pay phones and the increasing cost of pagers it is reasonable. But the up-to-date smart phones ( perhaps better described as pocket computers) sure do look nifty. I await a personally compelling use; that doesn't mean there are not compelling uses for other people.

  3. Working tomorrow on my day off. Blah. But starting next Wednesday I'll get 10 days off (with paid vacation and holiday time, too)! I can't remember the last time that happened!!

    1. Yes, that's nice; enjoy it to the utmost, listener. Two years and eleven months to go until I get every weekend off, if all goes well. I'm really looking forward to it.
