We actually drove this road in Autumn (more like a trail!)

  2. Alan and all, please be aware that food products originating in Japan are now more radioactive, due to the triple meltdown at Fukushima.

  3. Proud Grammie Alert!

While walking with her Daddy to gymnastics class this morning, our 4 year old granddaughter became outraged by the trash along the side of the road. "It's like people think the whole entire world is a trash bag! Trash bags go in the kitchen!" Daddy adds: "Apparently we are picking up trash on the way home today…"

So I guess that constitutes a Proud Mom Alert too! :-)

  4. I asked my son, who is a PhD wildlife biologist, if anyone is testing the waters of the Pacific. Here was his response:
"I know that testing in AK, HI, and CA showed no significant levels of radiation. Radiation levels are significantly elevated in the water about 20 miles out from the site of the reactor, but mostly diluted beyond that point."
Of course, that doesn't speak to the concern raised in the article about products being exported from Japan to the USA. And it might relate to the concern raised about acceptable levels.
There's nothing wrong with reading labels and being careful!

  5. Just signed the contract to get the stucco work done. Quite a bit more than I'd expected, largely because the guy will be taking care of problems that had been below our radar. But with the roof work much less than expected (we'll be signing that contract in a couple of days), the total is still toward the low end of my original guesstimate.

The stucco guy will start Sunday, largely because the prediction is for several days of good weather. The roofing guy will presumably start once the stucco work is done.

  6. Blah! With the strain on my body apparently over for now (Whatever that was yesterday seems to have been a false alarm.) wouldn't you think I'd feel better, maybe even good? But, au contraire! I feel absolutely lousy! Canceled my optometrist appointment for tomorrow - can't cope with going out.

Slept most of the day and missed a sunny one. *sigh*

    1. Really glad to hear "false alarm." But will take a while to recover. Just take it easy.

    2. I'm not surprised this has settled down. That sort of thing comes and goes. The frustrating part is that sometimes there's no warning. Do what you can to rest, drink fluids, take vitamins and especially chelated *iron* supplements!!!! Anemia can be dangerous. Please see a doctor soon.

    3. Recognizing slowly developing or mild anemia can be nearly impossible on your own. Many cases of anemia are discovered only incidentally on laboratory tests performed for some other reason. As anemia worsens, you may begin to notice symptoms of fatigue, lack of energy, shortness of breath, headaches, dizziness, problems concentrating or cold hands and feet. Some of these symptoms might occur only during exercise at first but can appear even at rest as your blood counts continue to drop. Anemia is a common disorder affecting all ages and groups of people, but your risk of becoming anemic is greater if you are on a limited diet low in iron or other vitamins, have a reason for blood loss like heavy periods, are pregnant or have a chronic disease such as diabetes, kidney disease or cancer.

    4. At first, I didn't recognise that I had anemia. I didn't know that a desire to chew crunchy things could be a sign of pica. It wasn't until I had the symptom of tightening in my neck (while out walking alone in a remote area!) and a concern that it could be heart-related that I decided I had better see a doctor.

  7. Kind of creepy. Just as I was considering whether to re-install Firefox or re-download it altogether, a tab came up suggesting I reset it. There must be some critical mass of errors etc. at which Firefox is programmed to make this suggestion. It certainly seems to be working better now, after the reset.
