  2. Today I find myself reflecting on President Obama's current pickle re intervention in Syria. To put it mildly, he seems not to have been served well by his secretaries of State. Indeed, US foreign policy has seemed to me unquestionably incompetent since the collapse of the Soviet Union. The decline in US power and consequently in influence has not been handled well.

P.S.: I include the reference to the collapse of the Soviet Union simply as a time reference, not as a postulated beginning of the trend.

    1. So, Alan, are you for or against the President's much delayed proposal to intervene in Syria?

As the phrasing of the above may indicate, I favor, if not outright intervention, then substantive and meaningful assistance for the Syrian opposition, and have been impatiently waiting for the President to do something for some time.

    2. Well, in the great scheme of things, I don't think the President is capable of doing anything significant.
