Pansies!!

  1. Howard Dean ain't no pansy!

The politicians being bandied about for the Democratic nomination in 2016 do not thrill me...

I found (in the local library!) a transcription of the passenger list for the brigantine Catharina out of Hamburg, arrived Philadelphia Aug. 3rd, 1792--with my great great great grandfather on board. Numerous errors in the transcription, and dependents listed without names under heads of families. But the Pennsylvania State Archive evidently has the originals and microfilm copies of same. I sent off an inquiry. Hoping to find my ancestor's trade and a 17-year old passenger named Maria...

P.S.: 178 lbs this (Friday) morning; 11 lbs to go. 209.5 lbs max, stuck at 205 for a long time, 201 lbs when I started dieting systematically on January 7th. Not bad at all, and surprisingly easy. Planning continues apace for Ontario and Quebec in October. Work at the hospital this weekend.

    1. Nicely done, Alan! Both the great local library find (!!!) and the weight loss!

I too have found it surprisingly easy to lose poundage this season. I wasn't trying to; I was just changing some eating habits so that there was less tendency toward inflammation in my body. So dropping most grains helped. Also, I had just been using olive oil, and I still use it for salads and other cold foods. But for cooking I have switched to Bronner's raw, free trade coconut oil. It helps raise your good cholesterol and something about having that in balance has caused me to lose about 6 pounds in a month.

    2. Ditto! And you, too, listener!

kWe blame Monsanto for GMOs, and they should be. But kind of ignore the fact that it is *also* otherwise possible to create Frankenfood via older time tested engineering. . . . Wheat, in less than fifty years has changed so dramatically, that a huge portion of the human race cannot tolerate it at all, and it damages everyone, regardless of if they're still able to tolerate (sort of) it.

  2. Baby Rowan is a week old already! I'm sure it has felt like three weeks to his parents. But all's well.

  3. In another stunning feat of incompetence, I seem to have misplaced my debit card. I last had it when I got my hair cut yesterday.

In spite of compliments and kind words, I freaking HATE this haircut and want it to grow back NOW. But please wish me luck in finding this debit card. I feel like such a moron for losing it in the first place.

    1. I recently misplaced my passport--or rather didn't see it when I looked where it actually was, which was where it should have been. Found it not long after ordering up a new one... Don't rake yourself over the coals, Renee.

    2. And a bit over a year ago I misplaced one of my hotel reward cards and ordered a new one. Needless to say, the original turned up. Not where it should have been, but in a place I logically should have looked and rather believe I did.

    3. Has your debit card turned up? It's probably in a very logical place. All good luck and blessings!!

    4. Has not turned up, but I called the salon where I last used it and it had not been found. If Demetrius decides the step must be taken, he can cancel the card and order me a new one while I am in Chicago.

I have a LOT to do before I go home with Paul in the afternoon. Wish me luck. I hope I thanked everyone for the generous donations that have come our way. At the moment, I am regretting spending any of it on treats for my kids, who routinely treat me like something they would like to wipe off their shoe.

Posted the wrong phone number earlier anyway. Will be in touch, probably once I get some things done and am in Chicago. The iPhone (hand-me-down from Paul) is still quite the challenge to use.

Getting back to bed now (was spooked by Perkins having an encounter with a possum when Paul took the dog out front for a walk.

Take care, everyone. And know that, most likely, I won't have the time or the means to get in touch with anyone during the day tomorrow.

  5. While catering to baby boomers may not necessarily fit into every business's products and or services. Private Student Loans for People helps companies to build a dual-format player? A website development company not only to deliver customized and accurate customer messaging, but removing unnecessary data in what can be an effortless means of making a buying decision?
