  2. That has to be one of the cutest menorahs ever! I can't quite make out what kind of animal is next to rightmost, though.

    3. I just wanted to do a minor edit. You didn't used to get that sort of thing when you deleted to make a change.

I'm thinking maybe a hamster standing on its hind legs. The fact you can only see the belly, the bottom of the chin, and the nose makes it hard to be sure.

It's about time someone stood up for men in this country!
    =============
Ohio State Senator Nina Turner (D) has proposed legislation requiring that men looking to buy erectile dysfunction drugs like Viagra receive a psychological evaluation, a measure she said Wednesday she proposed out of appreciation.

“The men in our lives, including members of the General Assembly, generously devote time tofundamental female reproductive issues — the least we can do is return the favor,” she quipped in a statement Thursday. “It is crucial that we take the appropriate steps to shelter vulnerable men from the potential side effects of these drugs.”

The proposal is Turner’s latest response to state Republican tactics like the “Heartbeat Bill,” a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade that would have outlawed abortions as soon as a fetus’ heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy, and a Republican committee’s vote last month to put Planned Parenthood at the bottom of the priority list for state funding.

Earlier this year, Turner also introduced a bill requiring men be certified as impotent by a sexual partner and undergo sex therapy before getting a Viagra prescription.

Her latest proposal requires that men planning to purchase Viagra and other PDE5 inhibitors, often used to treat impotence, get not only clearance from a medical physician, but a second opinion from an unaffiliated psychological doctor stating the patient suffers from “a true medical malady” before being allowed treatment.

According to Viagra’s website, the type of side effects incurred can vary depending on the dosage:

The most common side effects of VIAGRA are headache, flushing of the face, and upset stomach. Less common side effects that may occur are temporary changes in color vision (such as trouble telling the difference between blue and green objects or having a blue color tinge to them), eyes being more sensitive to light, or blurred vision.
In rare instances, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including VIAGRA) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision in one or both eyes. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to these medicines, to other factors such as high blood pressure or diabetes, or to a combination of these.
Advertisements for PDE5 inhibitors also routinely advise that patients whose erections last more than four hours seek medical care.

“When a man makes a crucial decision about his health and his body, he should be fully aware of the alternative options and the lifetime repercussions of that decision,” Turner said in her statement. “Men need this guidance so they can better understand and more effectivelyaddress their condition.”

    1. Absolutely! I applaud Turner's proposals. They are long overdue! They should be enacted into Federal law.

Yes, I'm being smart ass, but I'm also completely serious. If men's sexual "needs" were scrutinized half as closely as women's requests for contraceptives and abortions, there might be less need for contraceptives and abortions.

The other thing is, of course, every man on earth does not have a God given, constitutionally protected right to fuck. The ability to engage in sexual intercourse is a gift, not a right. If God takes away that gift, it's withdrawal should be accepted with resignation, humility, what have you, not fought with drugs that, like any drugs, can indeed have dangerous and long lasting side effects. The culture of sexual entitlement is something a civilized society should be past.

    2. Yes, I agree. I'm with Wanda Sykes. She says if an older man wants Viagra or something like it, he should have to produce sworn statements from at least four women who want him to bed them. Also, I've never understood the reasoning behind freely dispensing Viagra/Cialis, etc., while still restricting birth control pills. Do they not get the connection? Do they *want* more women to be impregnated?

    3. It's the old story. A man has a right to have sex but a woman who has sex is a slut and deserves to get pregnant for doing it.

    4. Susan ~~ Do you really mean that the desires of the man's wife shouldn't count at all??? That married couples should be denied just because they're marries?

And as far as I know, the requirements for getting birth control pills and the requirements for getting Viagra are identical -- a prescription from an MD. Do birth control pills require anything more than that?

    5. Bill, I was talking about single individuals, of course. Although I do personally know some wives who wish to hell their husband couldn't get Viagra. And when a man goes to the doctor, does he take his wife in with him? Or does the doctor just take his word for what she wants?

    6. Although beware of Cialis. Apparently it just makes you climb into a bathtub. At least that's what the commercials always show.

  4. I've spent the day mostly catching up on things I've let slide for weeks and months. Almost caught up, but now my client has sent stuff for me to read. As he reminded me yesterday, we've got a lot on our plates.

  5. Spent a most enjoyable afternoon at Patty and Peter's. The morning was a little rocky, but once I got out of the house and in the car, things started looking up and the day went on from there. Friends are the best gift a person can have.

  6. Hey all.

We got a call from Sweetie's sister tonight telling us that her partner died this evening. :-( So that's twelve loved ones lost. Please don't mention this on my Facebook page (!!!), as they're keeping it quiet until tomorrow noon...just to have some down time. Thanks.

    So sad. :-(

    4. What Susan said, listener. Beware of survivor's syndrome. We all care about you.

    5. Thanks everyone. It helps to know you care. It's 12 in about 15 months, but it's been pretty steady...every 5 or 6 weeks. I think it's just that we love a lot of people who are a little bit older than we are who have had a little worse luck. We're holding up all right, but would sure like this season to end.
