Now That's a Porch!

Do I see three doors leading off that long porch? A triplex? Makes it a bit less impressive if so. My house has a wrap-around porch and some of those on other houses in the neighborhood are even more impressive.

    1. All I saw, Alan, was a big, gorgeous porch. It's where the road bends out in the country one a rural road. That's not typically a triplex sort of place, but you could be right. However, I doubt that house started out as a triplex.

  2. BTW, Alan, the 14 room house Mah*Sweetie grew up in had a wrap-around porch too. Amazing! The house also had stained glass, bay windows, pillars in the livingroom, French doors, laundry chute, dumbwaiter, and a wooden spiral staircase.

No one wanted to buy it when the time came, so it was sold to the bank (in 1975) for $18K...! They tore it down and put in a parking lot. So now Mah*Sweetie tells the kids, "That's the parking lot I grew up in."

  3. VT*Grand is here overnight and all day tomorrow. She seems to have a headache and says her heart hurts. Hmmm, could be a night longer than the "fall back" thing.

She said her chest hurt last weekend too. If it's not acid reflux, what else might it be? She's only 5 yrs old.

  4. My first guess would be sore skeletal muscles, listener.

Check out this story on voter registration from the LA Times; and read it to the end:

  5. I've been thinking about the two children drowned when they and their mother were turned away from the door of a house. "Reckless disregard for human life" is part of the definition of one of the forms of criminal homicide--whether manslaughter or murder I don't recall.

    1. I believe "reckless homicide" is the term in Illinois. Usually used when a motorist's blatant disregard for traffic laws results in someone being killed. Often it's a crash resulting from DUI.

  6. But, guys, as I read the story. She put her two boys on top of the car and a surge swept them away. She went to the house to ask for help *looking for them*. They weren't in her arms.

  7. That would be rather a different matter, certainly, Susan.

  11. Thanks for the clarification, Susan!

As I read the story, her house on Staten Island began to flood, so she tried to drive to her sister's house in Brooklyn, and the flood overtook them. Oh, how I wish they had evacuated before the storm hit. This was unprecedented flooding, and she was too young to know all that could happen. What a price to pay! I wish her mayor had pressed for evacuation sooner.
