Moving on...

I'll come back to this walk another time. (It definitely gets better!) :-)

  1. Howard Dean is First and would be the first to cheer!

She won! The Dem won over the incumbent Repub because a judge ruled that the vote that came in from "overseas" was valid! She won by that one vote. Awesome!

    Disputed ballot goes to Dem...

  4. Job No. 3 (consulting) going pretty well; pity it isn't steady work. Got a job out of Seattle that reminded me of an Amos 'mn' Andy TV show I saw..... about 58 years ago. Found the show ["The Gun"] on YouTube; watching it showed my memory of the scene of particular interest was not accurate. Oh, well. I will send a copy off to the attorney--he'll get several good laughs out of it, I think.

  5. Yesterday it rained quite a bit, most all day long and into the night. This morning dawned clear and near freezing. We woke to a sound rather like a train or the sound of traffic on the freeway carried on cold air, but louder and constant. It occurred to me to pull out the binoculars and look across the river, where I discovered that the many wind machines among the orchards were at work. The attorney in Seattle I was talking with yesterday said the city was pretty much shut down.

  6. Well, a *good* bit colder than yesterday. And pale gray. Rain tomorrow and Friday. Thinkin' it's prolly not worth curling da hair, since the rain/humidity will just take the curl out innyways. Ah, well.

  7. Don't know if it's the sudden cold, or a great storm coming, but my knees are absolutely *screaming* today. I didn't take my vitamin D yesterday, but this is *way* more than that! Took my D, got my emu oil out, and downed a couple of naprosyn. Hope sumpin helps, soon.

  8. When I went out to fill the feeders in early afternoon all the water containers without de-icers were frozen solid. It started sleeting as I was working out there (cold!), so I finished as quickly as I could.

  9. Wow is right! That's quite something.

  10. Yeah, it looked awful on last night's news.

  11. Yikes, Puddle. Sending lots of easeful thoughts for da knees.

  12. Cold and sunny here today. Beautiful weather for the time of year to my way of thinking. I did fleetingly wish there were an inch or two of snow on the ground, more picturesque that way you know. But all and all, a picture postcard day.

  13. I ordered the James Taylor and Carol King DVD. Had quite a time until finally finding my error in inputting the credit card number. Finally got it sorted out but not before getting pretty frazzled. I don't know why things like that upset me so much, but they always do. Oh well, the important thing is that the order went through and I'll soon have a lovely concert DVD to watch.

Those two certainly seem to be good friends. It's funny, since he's so quiet and she's so, err, not.

  14. "It's Too Late" by Carol King has been running in my head ever since listening to the concert the other night.

  15. Boy, I'll tell ya.... There's nothing in this world to convince you faster that you have way too much stuff than trying to get a room emptied. Gads! I've been doing this for *days* and I'm still not finished. Took a giant load to the thrift shop, but I'm still running out of places to put the "stuff" until I finish painting the room. Oh, and I'm not even taking out the big pieces of furniture, just moving them 20" out from the wall so I can get behind with the ladder.

Ugh, ugh, ugh. When I'm finished I plan to sleep for days.

  17. Can you imagine being a bird?
I'll bet they love your hot springs!

  18. They don't really get warm though. The water stays just above freezing. This morning early saw the poor little birds tapping their beaks on the frozen ice, just testing to see if it was liquid.

  19. I do halfsies. Push everything into one half, do the other, then push everything into *that* half, and do the other.

  20. Normally I would do it halvsies too, but this is my bedroom and it has 8 years accumulation of nicotine tar on the walls. I just can't face washing the ceiling and walls, so I'm slapping a coat or two of oil-based primer up before I do the "real" paint. Kind of horrifying when I see all the white spots where I had stuff hanging on the walls. Lucky I can still breathe!!

  21. I just deleted my whole reply by accident. Sigh.

I would do halvsies, but I have to put up two coats of oil-based primer first to keep the nicotine tar from bleeding through. Just not feeling the whole "washing" thing. Then I'll do the "real" painting. I'm tellin' ya.... I better have picked a color I still like in a few years 'cause I'm *not* doing this again!

  22. Well, at least it's a colour you got to choose. When we paint at Daughter's we do the colour she chose. Then when she decides it's not quite the shade she wanted we do it again. LOL! Her motto seems to be: "Choose once, paint twice." LOL!

My temp was down all day!! It went back up a wee bit briefly a short while ago, but is behaving again presently. I think I'm over the worst of this if I don't go under between now and the Thanksgiving meal!

I made three pies today! One twice. Heh. Pumpkin went fine, Deep Dish Apple went fine, then made a Cherry pie up special for Daughter's birthday (we'll put the candles in that) ~ lattice top with pretty cherry and maple leaves along the edges and scattered across the top. So of course it was the Cherry I had the oven problem with. I put it in to bake at 450 for 10 minutes, then set the oven to time the next 40 minutes and neglected to turn the oven down for the last 40 minutes! I caught it after 30 minutes, but the edges were dark brown to black. Blah! So I figured we'd just use the 100%-from-scratch Apple as the birthday pie and use the cherry filling over some Cherry Garcia ice cream.

But! My knight in shining armour, who had just returned from errands all over town, suggested that he go out and get me more filling supplies. So while he ran out for more frozen cherries, I made more dough! This time it came out perfect! Yayyyy! Cherry pie is Daughter's favourite.

EEP! Just learned she'll be here in one hour and we still have some cleaning left to do. I'd best skedaddle!

HAPPY LAST MINUTE PREPS, EVERYONE!! ♥

  23. Nothing much to report here. Have some free time, so I'm getting through my re-read of Startide Rising -- perhaps Brin's best book. Lot's of good descriptions of really wierd aliens, not to mention good action scenes and other nice touches.

Hope everybody who's not feeling up to normal get's better soon.

  24. I'd offered my astonishingly good cheesecake, and hadn't heard back. Then the news that the pumpkin had burned because the kids had put one of the Star Wars on, so it'd be much appreciated. And it will be: it's very very good. And I won't mention that it's low carb and everyone will be wery wery happy.

The K-nees are acting a tiny bit better. Sure wish I could figure out where this came from. Good part: they only hurt if I try to move. . . .
