Almost Autumn

  1. Robert Redford has died at age 89

This is a good article, as it expresses his lifework well, with enough personal notes to make it worthy but not gossipy. And I learned some things. For example, I never knew about the deaths he endured.

  2. Folks!! Last night I slept 8 hours…and all of it lying down!! Dare I hope the new med (an OTC steroid) is going to solve this struggle at last?

    2. Thanks, Susan. ❤️
I must be an optimist because every time something good happens with sleep, I think: "This is it! All will be well!"
      Fingers and toes crossed.

    3. This is good news indeed!
I didn't know steroid nasal sprays were available OTC. Mine is perscription.

  3. Liane*in*VT posted this today::

Every group the president named on his hit list, today needs to back up ALL of their data, web servers, etc., and put all of it someplace secure, on another continent.

The two that I've seen so far are Open Society Foundation and the Southern Poverty Law Center. [edit to add:] The Ford Foundation

  4. The Center for Investigating writes: He [Trump] is ramping up his campaign to muzzle and silence the press. He wants newsrooms that ask tough questions to either shut up or shut down. That’s no surprise—it’s been the same since his first administration. What has been staggering to witness this time around is how many in Congress and corporate media are lining up to help him do it.

What does it mean when the media gets intimidated into playing it safe? It means truth loses—and fear wins. -- nordy

  5. listener, read this.
Try this simple, science-backed trick to fall asleep faster
Wapo: Try heating up your feet at night with one of these methods:
Take a warm bath or shower.
Do a quick foot soak in warm water.
    Wear socks to sleep.
Warming the extremities before bed has been shown to help people fall asleep more quickly. It does so as well as many over-the-counter sleep aids. -- nordy

    1. Thanks, Cat. I already have bed-socks I wear as needed.
My issue isn't insomnia, though. It's stuffy nose. I have had so little sleep that I could fall asleep anywhere, any time, if only I could breathe through my nose.
It does seem, though, that this medication is turning the tide! Stay tuned.

    2. That was from Nordy

I usually wear socks, sometimes ordinary ones, sometimes special sleep socks. Sad to say, it doesn't help me get to sleep. Sometimes it doesn't even keep my feet from getting cold. *shrug* It's still a good idea though.

  6. The spelling program does not like my blog name. Every time I try to type "nordy," it tries to substitute "wordy" or "nerdy." This time it got even better and wanted to replace "nordy" with just "nerd." -- nordy

    1. "Have i been with you so long and yet you do not know me?"

The good news is that it means AI isn't smart enough to recognise you yet.

    2. Is the spellchecker AI? I don't think so. If it were capable of learning it would eventually learn that "nordy" is OK

    3. Nordy is a wordy nerdy nerd. Hmmm...

Don't fret, Nordy. I had to add my handle to my spellchecker's dictionary.

Virginia Reverend goes VIRAL with devastating takedown of the efforts of MAGA Christians to whitewash Charlie Kirk.

Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley set social media on fire with his passionate sermon. “Charlie Kirk did not deserve to be assassinated. But I’m overwhelmed seeing the flags of the United States of America at half-staff calling this nation to honor and venerate a man who was an unapologetic racist and spent all of his life sowing seeds of division and hate into this land. And hearing people with selective rage who are mad about Charlie Kirk, but didn’t give a damn about Melissa Hortman and her husband when they were shot down in their home, tell me I ought to have compassion for the death of a man who had no respect for my own life.”

Charlie Kirk was an avowed white supremacist who laundered his despicable propaganda under the hood of being a “debater” and a “free speech” advocate — but it’s telling that none of the memorials for Charlie Kirk contain any of the things he said and that MAGA scolds are trying to get people fired just for sharing the things he actually said.

Wesley dropped a hammer on Kirk and MAGA, saying “I am sorry, but there’s nowhere in Bible where we are taught to honor evil. How you die does not redeem how you lived. You do not become a hero in your death when you are a weapon of the enemy in your life.”

Charlie Kirk spent his career building a propaganda network with which to hoodwink young college students and ruthlessly bullying those he disagreed with. A reprehensible racist, sexist, and bigot who said the Civil Rights Act was a mistake, Kirk played a huge role in making America’s political discourse as toxic as it is today and should be remembered as the vile man he was. We cannot allow history to be rewritten.

  8. Today Heather Cox Richardson did a podcast in which she mentioned that the % of Americans who want things solved by violence is actually only 4%. That's still too large a number, but it's way smaller than the media and the DT Admin suggests!
