  1. From CBS to TikTok, US media are falling to Trump’s allies. This is how democracy crumbles.
    Guardian editorial: Owen Jones
... In August, David Ellison’s Skydance Media acquired Paramount Global with financial support from his father, leaving him as chair and CEO of the new entity. Beyond a vast slice of Hollywood, this acquisition brought control of CBS News – one of the US’s “big three” networks. During the last election, Trump demanded CBS lose its broadcasting license over alleged political bias and even sued the network over what he called a flattering edit of Kamala Harris’s 60 Minutes interview. His mood has since improved. Ellison is “going to do the right thing” with the network, Trump crowed when its ownership shifted. His optimism was swiftly vindicated: a Trump appointee was installed as CBS’s ombudsman to monitor “bias”, and Bari Weiss – a former Democrat turned anti-woke crusader – was made editor-in-chief. -- nordy

  2. I just got off an hour long Zoom event with Heather Cox Richardson and "Red, Wine and Blue." Democracy is only over if we allow it to be that way. The emphasis right now is on the elections happening in 5 days. There are NONE in Vermont, but places like Ohio, Virginia and Maine have much going on. Give oxygen to anyone you know who is on the front lines of this election cycle!

  3. Sooo! My ENT doc prescribed medicated nasal rinses, and today is day 6. I slept 7 hours the last two nights! Hoping this keeps on keeping on!

  4. Yesterday Wil and I got the gardens out front put to rights for Winter. Today we got the Winterberry bushes pruned and I planted dozens of Spring bulbs. Felt good...and as it's about to turn colder and be a bit rainy this week, it was timely.

  5. Have any of you read books by Louise Penny? She writes a detective series set in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Canada. I haven't read any yet, but think it's about time I did, because she is speaking this Sunday at the Haskell Library in Derby, Vermont, and Wil and I have tickets to it! It's her ONLY speaking engagement in the USA this year, and it's happening because the Haskell Library straddles the USA-Canada border. Perhaps she will enter by the new door on the Canadian side and stay in that half of the Library? We'll go in through the (original) USA door. But inside one is free to go everywhere.

    1. No I haven't. I used to be a mystery fan but these days there are so many science fiction and fantasy books I want to read they have crowded the mysteries out.

  6. I have spent the whole day trying to organize my DOOM piles. Stands for "Didn't Organize, Only Moved". Suggests I may have undiagnosed ADHD. Every single flat surface in my house is covered. It has become overwhelming. I'm working on it though. Susan

    1. That happens so easily and swiftly, it's amazing any of us has a clear space anywhere! LOL! We also have less focus these days for reasons of chaotic fascism.
