  1. Trump says he will sign order targeting mail-in ballots and voting machines ahead of 2026 midterm elections
Guardian: Donald Trump said on Monday he would sign an executive order ahead of next year’s midterm elections, saying he would lead “a movement” targeting mail-in balloting and voting machines across the country.
“I am going to lead a movement to get rid of MAIL-IN BALLOTS, and also, while we’re at it, Highly Inaccurate, Very Expensive, and Seriously Controversial VOTING MACHINES,” he wrote in a social media post. -- nordy

    1. It sounds like he's going to "lead a movement" which will matter NOT AT ALL here in Vermont. We're very practiced up at saying NO to him.

  2. WA Gov. Ferguson defends immigration policy from White House attacks
    Seattle Times
In a Saturday post on X, Gov. Bob Ferguson defended Washington state’s immigration policy amid threats of federal crackdowns on so-called sanctuary jurisdictions.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote a letter to Ferguson last week, which he shared on social media, saying Washington state had been identified by the White House as a jurisdiction that “engages in sanctuary policies and practices that thwart federal immigration enforcement to the detriment of interests of the United States.”
But Ferguson said, “Washington state has no intention of changing our values in the face of threats from the Trump administration.” -- nordy

  3. Texas Democrats End Walkout, Allowing Redrawn Map to Pass
NYT: AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Democrats, who had left the state to halt an aggressive redistricting, returned to Texas and ended their two-week walkout Monday, paving the way for Republicans to pass a redrawn congressional map called for by President Donald Trump.
For the past two weeks, Republican leaders in Texas bristled at the Democrats’ flight and took extraordinary steps to pressure them to return. Gov. Greg Abbott and the state attorney general, Ken Paxton, sued to try to remove the absent Democrats from office. Sen. John Cornyn got the FBI involved in locating them. The state House speaker, Dustin Burrows, issued civil arrest warrants and threatened to impose $500 daily fines under House rules.
But in the end, Democrats said they had decided to return only after they had denied a vote during a first special legislative session, a move that drew national attention to Trump’s push for a rare mid-decade redistricting and helped propel Democratic states to begin their own redistricting efforts. -- nordy

    1. Oh, so they're not yellow dogs, why? Because they drew national attention to the plot? Because they blocked it once? Big deal. They're yellow dogs, all right, and spineless to boot. It was all just a performance for the cameras. Disgusting!

    2. Cat, I hear your frustration but I think you are being too hard on the Texas Dems. They were going to have to come back sometime. I think they deserve credit for walking out at all. --nordy

  6. I saw a video on YouTube on "Occupy Democrats" that showed a tank, driven by the Russians and captured from Ukraine, flying BOTH Russian and AMERICAN! flags! That's how thoroughly trump sold out both America AND Ukraine to Russia. He's so stupid he thinks Putin "likes" him. Susan

    1. It is not clear to me that Putin actually met with Trump in Alaska. The political, economic, and military situations in Russia are such that it could well have been a body double. It is about time for someone to fall from a window.

    2. Well, they had that nice, cozy ride in the Beast, just the two of them. Putin's a crafty and patient man. He does everything possible to keep Trump adoring and in line.
It has been pointed out that the Epstein files matter exploded shortly after Trump started talking about slapping sanctions, tariffs and whatnot on Russia and its trading partners. And yet, there they were on the tarmac, acting like the bestest of best friends. Trump is soooo easy to play!

  9. US State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas, official says
CNN: The State Department has revoked more than 6,000 student visas this year, a State Department official said Monday, as the Trump administration continues its crackdown on some international students it says have broken the law...In June, the State Department told its embassies and consulates it must vet student visa applicants for “hostile attitudes towards our citizens, culture, government, institutions, or founding principles.” Applicants will be asked to set their social media profiles to public as part of the vetting, and a diplomatic cable noted that “limited access to, or visibility of, online presence could be construed as an effort to evade or hide certain activity.” -- nordy
