  3. Winter has arrived here: high in mid-30s. Overcast and very windy -- predicted gusts up to40 mph. Winds persuaded me not to go out to dinner tonight.

    1. Good thinking. Next question: Do you have the makings for supper?

    2. Aside from the rare instances when my son makes salad plus soup or curry, my usual supper is dried fruit and nuts. Yes, I have those on hand. Not allowed to actually make supper

    4. The thought is greatly appreciated but we gave up any sort of holiday celebration decades ago.

  5. Shorter Days, Signs of Fatigue: Trump Faces Realities of Aging in Office

NYT: The day before Halloween, President Donald Trump landed at Joint Base Andrews after spending nearly a week in Japan and South Korea. He was then whisked to the White House, where he passed out candy to trick-or-treaters. Allies crowed over the president’s stamina.

A week later, Trump appeared to doze off during an event in the Oval Office.

With headline-grabbing posts on social media, combative interactions with reporters and speeches full of partisan red meat, Trump can project round-the-clock energy, virility and physical stamina. Now at the end of his eighth decade, Trump and the people around him still talk about him as if he is the Energizer Bunny of presidential politics.

The reality is more complicated: Trump, 79, is the oldest person to be elected to the presidency, and he is aging. To preempt any criticism about his age, he often compares himself to President Joe Biden, who at 82 was the oldest person to hold the office, and whose aides took measures to shield his growing frailty from the public, including by tightly managing his appearances. -- nordy

    1. Of course there are those of us who think Trump is already senile, schedule notwithstanding. -- nordy

    2. Check.

Also, there's a difference between normal aging and senility. Pres. Biden experienced the former while Trump has been suffering the latter for years IMO.

  6. Video: Jury Trial Bombshell Just Left the Government Reeling - Click

Clarification of that somewhat misleading headline: The British govt. is poised to remove the right to a jury trial. Oh, the joys of an unwritten constitution.

  8. I made 5 pies! Pumpkin, Apple, Cherry, and Chocolate and one smaller Pumpkin pie as well. That latter is because eldest isn't feeling great (was at a TawKwonDo tournament in RI on the weekend and picked up a cold) and isn't yet sure if he can come to the Thanksgiving gathering. So, just incase, Wil and I drove down to his house tonight through driving rain, with the little pie, as well as a serving of a full Thanksgiving meal, plus a Thanksgiving card and a puzzle. That's the only way to ensure he's right as rain come morning, eh?
