Guess there's nothing much going on. Not much here, either. Had a good day yesterday celebrating my 80th birthday, but back to work today.W. Visited a non-profit bookstore (proceeds to the city library) near the courthouse in Oakland this afternoon, and rewarded myself with a promising non-fiction tome. Staying for the second night at the same motel. Sorry, I don't know anything about Star Trek IV, listener; so no idea about Alameda and whales. They used to have a famous seaside resort in the Californian one--Neptune Beach, home of the snow cone, the popsicle and the Kewpie Doll. Lots of Victorian houses. While walking around downtown Oakland in the morning looking for a convenience store (no luck) I was looking carefully at some old commercial buildings--rather fancy, obviously from before the 1906 SF earthquake, and not a crack or a damaged cornice to be seen in them despite the many large windows, particularly on the ground floors. They must have been built not only well, but on bedrock. Brick is a very poor building material in earthquake country.

Well, to bed.

AlanAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
