The first person narrator is very learned but at the same time hopelessly naive in the ways of the world, especially anything to do with women. So he makes mistakes any normal seventeen-year-old boy would know better than to make. And he is also an unreliable narrator. Almost finished, as I say, and I'm not sure he ever really grew up or learned from his mistakes. I just want to shake him! Still, the book itself is fascinating. For those who like historical novels, with a little bit of magic and the supernatural mixed in, I recommend it.Catreonahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15959115298646880631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15940389.post-7789160944596551182012-08-06T00:45:24.116-04:002012-08-06T00:45:24.116-04:00You're welcome, Susan.

That way, I don't have a personal stake(sp?) in the future and its headlong rush to the bottom.<br /><br />"Where are we going? And why are we in this hand basket?" Indeed, that's the question.Catreonahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15959115298646880631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15940389.post-87602371230651997242012-08-05T23:51:35.396-04:002012-08-05T23:51:35.396-04:00Thanks Cat. No more social studies, now no cursive writing being taught. How are they supposed to sign stuff? Printing?? Won't *that* look dumb. They won't be able to *read* anything written in cursive either. Seems like the Powers That Be have us in a race to the bottom. The less intelligent the masses, the fewer questions, the easier to control. Glad I'm old. But then I was so drained I couldn't actually get up for about another hour and a half. Donno why. Didn't sleep well, but no worse than usual. Just one of t hose things, I guess. Then had to hang about waiting for Patty, as per usual. This time though she claimed she would have been on time if it hadn't been for Peter. I had to laugh. When we finally got there, a most pleasant afternoon/evening ensued. Glad I went, only I'm kind'a pooped now.Catreonahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15959115298646880631noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15940389.post-67139769020713499422012-08-05T23:37:01.536-04:002012-08-05T23:37:01.536-04:00Phew! You've hit it right on the nose, the combination of victim mentality and hostility, belligerence even, is exactly the hallmark of the Tea Party types. Yes, terribly scary. I've noticed that in many of them, the hostility coupled with paranoia is pretty scary. I avoid them all as I would avoid petting a rabid dog. They seem to be impervious to reason and logic. Have some of those in my family, avoid them like the plague. My greatest fear is that there are enough stupid people in this country to put that idiot Romney in office.
