Vermont on Thursday

  1. Egad! But it has cooled off here, too--maximum temperatures in the high 70's F.

I just listened to my first podcast--a human interest story at the Washington Post. I was struck by the VERY low information density--like TV. It was 26 minutes long, and could probably have been read in five minutes, or maybe even less. Enjoyable, though.

  2. Beautiful picture. We're supposed to get snow on Monday. We skipped right over autumn and went straight from summer to winter.

    1. Straight from summer to winter indeed. First snow in October. Middle of this coming week predicted HIGHS below freezing. Yesterday I finally gave up trying to make do with my relatively warm summer jacket.

Sanders Draws Biggest Iowa Crowd Yet [Click] Could it be that I will be confronted with a choice between TWO acceptable primary candidates? I can’t recall if I have ever experienced that sort of thing.

    1. It would make for a welcome change, wouldn't it? I'm hedging my bets though. Still don't trust the DNC to nominate a viable candidate, as opposed to "an electable" one. So, I've started donating small amounts to the Green candidate, Howie Hawkins.

Blow to Amazon as Seattle socialist looks to have triumphed in key vote [Click] A quick check of the Internet does not indicate that she was supported by the Seattle IWW—probably too far to the right. [grin]

  5. The kid has arrived to buckle up the house for winter, and is hard at work. Leaving Monday.

  6. We are cleaning out the garage; among other things to go are (or rather were) the picket signs we made to protest the war on Iraq. I designed them so the message could be changed and the signboards reused--but, Boy! I didn't realize how well I had made them. I had to use a saw to cut the signboards off the "poles" and then use a utility knife to cut the signboards into pieces. One of the signs said on one side:

    WORST
    PRESIDENT
    EVER
(he doesn't look so bad now...)

    and on the other side:

    IMPEACH
    TRY
    EXILE

    1. Oh, man, Alan, those slogans are so now! You could've sold that sign on eBay for a bundle.

  7. AP reports that John Bolton has a book deal with Simon & Schuster.
I wonder how long before the election it will come out...

  9. Hey, Bernie's coming to Fresno on Friday! Will be at the place originally intended back in October, on the Fresno City College campus. Haven't heard yet of any other candidates planning to visit.

  10. I RSVP'd; assuming I go, I will report here. Checked Warren, no events scheduled in this area. If Bernie comes here (again) and she doesn't, that makes a significant difference to me.
