  1. Water protectors and those who support them in whatever way they can are first.

Mandan is the name of the town where the events took place that I was talking about on the last thread. It finally occurred to me to check the blurb on Kevin's video. Duh!

Long, lazy day here. Ordered my sweetie an iPad and accessories for Xmas & birthday. (Best price for the iPad at Best Buy and Target, online. Thesnugg.com has good covers, good prices, lifetime guarantee.) Pizza tomorrow. I may have found a specialty poultry farm near here that raises the Cornish Game hens [Click] that I remember. Inquiry pending.

Nearly 1.5 million votes yet to be counted in California; no results posted yet for write-in candidates.

  3. Oh, and after about a day and a half the Green Party recount fund has passed 4.6 megabucks. Target has been raised to 7 megabucks. At this rate they might make it sometime Friday afternoon or evening. I saw a story about it in the Japan Times, via AFP.

Russia Seen Behind Surge of ‘Fake News’ [Click] Not that I would take WaPo reports as gospel, mind you.

And now to bed, alarm clock not set.

    1. I came here right now to post a link to that Russia "fake news" story. Reminds me of a science fiction story about how a Netherlands threatened by rising sea level conquered the US. (In this scenario, the US had a multi-party system with first-past-the-post direct election of the president. A candidate secretly backed by the Dutch won. And announced that as a cost-saving measure he was gratefully accepting the Dutch offer to provide troops to patrol DC and other sites.)

  4. The graveyard shift raised about a quarter million dollars for the recount--now close to 4.9 megabucks. Filing fees for all three states long since taken care of, and I should expect that all three will be fully funded by Monday morning. If this is what the little old Green Party can do on the spur of the moment, it *ought* to tell the Dems something--but what they will hear is probably not what is being said. This from a long-time (but former) yellow dog Democrat.

    1. They only hear what they wanna hear which is, Hillary's perfect. :P I'm waiting to see. Don't want to change my party affiliation to Rainbow/Green, which is what they're called hereabouts, but OTOH my tether is just about all paid out. No sense clinging to a sinking ship.

  5. I finally got my letter to Paul Ryan mailed. Not as neutral in tone as the letter to McConnell because I hate Ryan more. Here's the text:

You keep pretending that Social Security and Medicare are a gift from the government. Surely you know that those monies are all from our paychecks. It is money we earned and you have no right at all to tamper with it.

Taking control of our Social Security and Medicare would be just as much a theft as if you robbed our savings accounts.

You got the benefits of Social Security that you now want to deny to others.

I simply cannot grasp the concept of a man (you) who seems to take such delight in causing misery and deprivation for the maximum number of people.

Perhaps you want to gut Medicare to set up the "Death Panels" right-wingers accused Obama of in 2008, because that would be the effect -- massive deaths.

And I sent a copy to each of his 3 WI offices. Nasty little shit.

    1. Gee, Susan, why don't you tell him what you really think? :)

Seriously, you hit the nail on the head. Thank you.

  6. I just realized there were actually two independent threads yesterday. The way they appeared on the site was confusing.

I don't understand why the Greens seem to need *paid* observers. In the recount for the election I was involved in (for state legislature) the observers were volunteers. I would have volunteered had it been closer to home. But that was Illinois, and maybe rules in other states require that observers be paid. Seems strange, though.

The recount in the election I mentioned changed exactly one vote. I don't expect this recount to be any different. But in both cases there were/are compelling reasons to go out and prove the results were honest.
