Rain, Light and Verve!

  1. This is deeply disappointing:

Bernie Sanders Campaign Suspends Jewish Outreach Coordinator for Vulgar Remarks About Netanyahu - Click

I expected Bernie to be above pandering. Guess I'll never learn that when you expect, you are always disappointed.

    1. I'm not sure what you mean, Cat. Do you think suspending the outreach coordinator is pandering? And if so, how so?

    2. I do, Susan. By suspending this girl who is on record as being critical of Netinyahu(sp?) and the RW Israeli govt.'s Nazi-like actions, Bernie's campaign is pandering to the Israel Right or Wrong element in U.S. politics.

    3. Nope, I suspect it had more to do with her choice of words (vulgar remarks?). Bernie is definitely not a fan of Netanyahu and he does not think Bibi is being at all humane in his treatment of Palestinians. I'll have to see what she said 'cause Bernie is most definitely not with the Right Wing (or Hillary) on Israel.

    4. If I understand correctly, her remarks were made on her personal Facebook page some months ago, before she joined Bernie's campaign. I really don't think it is fair to penalize her for them, obscenity or not. As I said on an FB thread, kids use obscenity as easily as breathing. I don't like it, but that's a fact nowadays. If you hire a kid, you have to take the bad with the good. *shrug* The article I saw made it sound like the bad language was secondary and she was really suspended for the criticism. That surprised me because, as you say, Bernie is not blindly pro-Israel. I donno. Maybe it's all in the presentation. It upset me anyway. And apparently it upset a lot of people.

  2. Here's a link I found talking about the suspension of Ms. Zimmerman:

  3. Here it is: "The coordinator, Simone Zimmerman, was suspended on Thursday over a Facebook post where Zimmerman called the Israeli leader an "arrogant, deceptive, cynical asshole" and wrote, "Fuck you, Bibi."

The only person running for President who wouldn't have fired a staffer using that kind of language, regardless of target, is Donald Trump.

    1. Thanks, puddle. I know it was for her language, but I couldn't find exactly what she said. Although I totally agree with her sentiments she should not have said that in her position in a national campaign.

    2. However, she was not involved with a national campaign when she said it. You can probably argue whether that makes a difference.

    3. Thanks, Bill. I do so argue. What she said on her personal page months before being hired by Bernie should have no bearing on her current position.

Either that or someone should have researched her online presence thoroughly enough to have found this supposedly offensive post *before* she was hired.

  4. In the debate Thursday night, Bernie said bold things about fairness to the Palestinians.

    1. His known position was what made the suspension of the Zimmerman girl so puzzling and upsetting.

    2. I suppose they're trying to stay ahead of the criticism where possible. You are correct that she should have been more carefully vetted in the first place, and that is what was bound to be expounded upon in the media.
